The burned out shell of the GPO as seen through the rubble of the Metropole Hotel. The fallen Flag pole that flew the “Irish Republic” flag during the Rising can be clearly seen hanging precariously from the corner of the GPO. A British soldier stand Guard on the corner beneath it. Work men clear the rubble of the Metropole Hotel and a man can be seen entering a third floor window of the GPO from a long ladder. Dublin’s citizens are back out on the streets inspecting the carnage that was created in the week long Rebellion, the trams are running again, the No 18 to Clonskea and the 143 to Dartry Rd, from Nelson,s Pillar Terminus, as Dublin returns to a form of normality.
